Who Are We

In honor of Harriett Woods and to continue her legacy of putting women in power, Harriett’s List was launched on June 2, 2009 – on what would have been her 82nd birthday.

In 2010 only 23 out of 197 legislative seats and 2 of the 6 statewide offices in Missouri are held by progressive women.

By working to elect more progressive women and simultaneously changing the face of power in Missouri government, we hope to combat the assault on issues of most importance to women and their families.

Harriett’s List, modeled after the national organization, Emily’s List, is working to increase the number of progressive Democratic women in the state legislature and state-wide office.  We provide financial, strategic and political support to targeted progressive Democratic women running for office with a specific focus on legislative and statewide races under Missouri’s current term limits.

Harriett’s List will recruit, train, mentor and support targeted incumbents and candidates who are committed to equality for women, social and economic justice, and women’s and children’s health.  Harriett’s List will also engage and activate women voters on behalf of endorsed candidates and speak out on issues important to women including domestic and sexual violence, pay equity, equality and social & economic justice.
